Sharon May Eagle

Sharon Eagle, age 62, of East Wenatchee died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family on September 14th. Surviving family members include: mother, Durmma Seiber; Children, Brad Davies and wife Melissa, Brian Davies and wife Sayo, and Nicole Pierce. Stepchildren include Devin Town and husband Alex, and Colleen Miller and husband Dave. Sharon's siblings include: Stephanie Hurst and husband Randy, Rick Belveal and wife Cheryl, Roger Belveal and wife Mary, and Troy Seiber and wife Deina. Sharon's grandchildren include Gabe, Seth, Isaac, Corban, Reese, Aiden, Nicholas and Sarah. Sharon was preceded in death by her step-father, Dale Seiber and her oldest brother Robbin Belveal. Sharon and her five siblings grew up in the beautiful Willamette Valley in Western Oregon. Some of her favorite memories of those years include warm summer days playing and swimming with her siblings in the nearby Santiam river along with their many adventures on their farm. As a young adult, Sharon called herself a "professional student" as she attended various colleges in the Northwest, eventually earning a Sociology degree. In 1977 Sharon met and married orchardist Ned Davies. Over the next several years they produced three children and enjoyed raising them in orchard country along the beautiful Columbia river. At age 29 Sharon finally realized what she wanted to be when she grew up; besides a mommy that is. With her new goal in mind she enrolled at Wenatchee Valley College, and earned her RN degree. In the following years she provided patient care at Central Washington Hospital. It was there that she first encountered nursing students working on their clinical rotations. To her great surprise, she discovered that she loved working with them and this is what motivated her to return to college one more time to earn the Master's degree that would enable her to be a full-time educator. One of Sharon's favorite things about teaching was those magical moments in which a "light bulb" clicked on and a student suddenly understood something. Those magical "Ahah!" moments are what made the effort worthwhile. She also loved working with the other nursing faculty, several of whom became life-long friends. During the last several years of her teaching career Sharon was invited to write several text books for a health professions publisher. This made her life even busier than before, yet she found this to be one of the most professionally rewarding experiences of her life. She was just wrapping up her 4th book when a diagnosis of lung cancer brought her very busy life to a sudden halt. In spite of her diagnosis Sharon found the slower pace of her life to be surprisingly welcome. Granted, the cancer part of it pretty much sucked and she did miss her students and colleagues. But now she was free to do some of the things she'd only dreamt of before. Things like: -Waking peacefully in the mornings without the rude interruption of alarm clocks! -Learning to savor each moment and quite literally "stop to smell the roses." -Enjoying unhurried conversations with loved-ones. -Focusing on hearing God's voice. -Spending unhurried time with new grandchildren. -Working on quilting projects. -And writing one more book, quite different from the others. It was eventually titled Terminal Hope, and was based on the extensive journaling, personal experience as nurse-turned-cancer-patient and many lengthy conversations with close friends. Over the past 8 years Sharon learned to live in the present or what she called "The Now." She noticed that she began to move, think and respond more slowly which enabled her to enjoy each step of her journey more fully. Sharon believed we all have an assignment of some sort to complete while we are here on earth. It is a vital part of the journey we each take. Only you and God can determine what yours is. Sharon believed that hers was, quite simply "to learn, to love and to grow." Within that general assignment, she believed there were other smaller ones as well. One included finding ways to contribute to others. Most obviously, she did this through the nursing care of her patients, the teaching and encouragement she provided her students, and her love for her friends and family. A celebration of life service will be held at Columbia Grove Church on Monday, September 24th at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, Sharon's request is for donations to be made to Water.org or WVC nursing scholarships. Arrangements assisted by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee.
