Shelley Kay Akin

Shelley Kay (McKenna) Akin Shelley passed away unexpectedly on the morning of July 28, 2018 at her home in Wenatchee at the age of 54. She was born January 15th 1964 to Laurel and Lois McKenna in Chelan, WA. Her first home was on Stayman Flats where she became the youngest of three girls. In 1968 the family moved to Wenatchee where she attended both Whitman and Sunnyslope Elementary Schools, after elementary school she attended Orchard Jr. High then moved onto Wenatchee High School Growing up she loved being a campfire girl, playing softball but most of all she loved roller skating. She had several jobs throughout the years but her most meaningful one began at Mission Visa. There she dedicated 35 years working with individuals with developmental disabilities. She loved her job and excelled in finding ways for her clients to reach their goals. She had co-workers who have become lifelong friends and she even met her best friend Belinda while working for Mission Vista. She was blessed with four nephews, Jaime, Robbie, Daniel and Lucas. Three nieces, Alicia, Madison and Grace. Three Great nephews, Kaden, RJ, and Ricky, great niece Estrella, and most recently her grand daughter Amelia. As her dad remarried she gained two step sisters, Shannon Scott, Kim (Denis) Cox, Blaine Colwell and for a short time Tracy Colwell. She married Greg Akin in September 2000, marrying Greg expanded her family to include Michelle and Jim Pelzer, Larry and Monica Akin along with Doug and Betty-Ann Akin. They were together for 18 years, In 2009 they adopted their daughter Megan who rounded out their family along with 2 schnauzers, 3 pot bellied pigs, 2 cats, 2 pugs and 3 chihuahuas. Her and her two sisters Jean McKenna and Kathy Gonzalez have always had a tight bond and know the true meaning of family. She now has joined her parents Laurel and Lois, step mother Jan, sister Sheryl, Aunt Sharon, grandparents Tom and Nancy Bagwell, Lester and May Erdman, and lastly step brother Tracy in Heaven. She had a beautiful soul and if she was your friend or your family, she would always go the extra mile for you. She always made our birthdays special and loved each and everyone of us unconditionally. Our lives will never be the same, but we do know that her personal relationship with God will give her eternal life.
