Shirley Ennis

Our sweet mother, Robbie “Shirley” Ennis, passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2025, surrounded by her four children. Mom was born on April 18, 1942, in Melbourne, AR, to Jim and Hattie (Wade) Estes. She spent her adolescent life in and around Izard County, AR, attending school and working in the cotton fields. While in Melbourne, she married Roy Lee Ennis on November 3, 1961. In 1964, she heard that orchard work in Washington state was prevalent. She packed up what they could in that old car, then traveled to Orondo, WA, where she worked in various Orchards. She made Orondo their new home. She landed a full-time job at Auvil's Fruit Company in the mid-80s. While working for Auvil’s in the late 80s, she helped plant their own orchard. Mom left Auvil’s in 1996, so she could focus on the orchard. They owned and operated “Ennis Fresh Fruit” for 28 years, selling at the Puyallup Farmers Market. Mom had a gift for growing some of the most beautiful summer stone fruits and vegetables. She was very pleased with her home fruit accomplishments. After retiring from the orchard in 2014, her hobby was planting various flowers, trees, and shrubs. She loved being outside and spent the majority of her time outside during the summer months “digging in the dirt.” Mom truly had a green thumb and could grow anything. She is survived by her four children. Robbie (Rick) Glenn, Pamela (Gordon) Page, Roy Lee Jr (Tina) Ennis and Melinda (Brendan Brickner) Ennis. Grandchildren: Michael Cargile, Jessica Ennis, Kayla Ennis, Keely Ennis, Rusann Glenn, Brian Glenn, and Dustin Glenn. Great-Grandchildren: Kyser, Madison, Ashton, Raiden, Zeniya, and Draven. She was very close with her sister in laws Joan Estes and Linda Streeter. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mom was preceded in death by her parents Floy “Jim” Estes and Hattie “Wade” Wilkerson. Her husband Roy Lee Ennis Sr, and infant son Royce Lynn Ennis, two brothers Jim and Charlie Estes and her sister Kay Steiner. A Funeral Service will be held on September 26, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Orondo Church,13966 US-2, Orondo, burial will follow at the Orondo Cemetery, and then back to the Orondo Church for a luncheon. Flowers can be delivered to the Orondo Church on Friday. Mom loved flowers. The family would like to thank Hospice and Bellevue Healthcare for their help during this difficult time. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
