Stephen Niccum

Stephen D. Niccum was a man of influence, compassion, and dedication in his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He led his life in such a way that his family and friends felt proud to call him such. A man of peace and humility, you felt blessed to know him, and simply be around him. He truly and authentically loved people. His heart's passion was to be a servant of the Lord, and a witness in love to all he met. His parents, Donald Niccum and Margret Niccum welcomed him on August 4th, 1959. He grew up in Indiana, and graduated from Anderson University with a Masters of Divinity. There he was blessed to meet and marry his college sweetheart, his life-long love Cheryl. They moved to the Wenatachee Valley in 1989, where Steve served as a youth pastor at the First Church of God in East Wenatchee. He later attended Central Washington University for his teaching certification. In 1997, he began teaching science at Westside High School. He was blessed in this role, and did not take his opportunities of influence lightly. His students would often say he was one of their favorites. Steve loved being in the outdoors, and felt closest to the Lord out in nature. He loved hunting and fishing, always giving the game, as some say, a sporting chance. A gardener and naturalist, he knew the names of many plants and their uses. He enjoyed outdoor activities as well, such as skiing, camping, biking, and hiking. He was well known for taking time alone to hike his favorite canyon, spending time in quiet contemplation and prayer. Over a year ago, he was diagnosed with cancer, and after a brave fight, passed away from a heart attack on Thursday, October 16th at the age of 55. He goes ahead of his wife Cheryl, his son Benjamin and wife Christina, his daughter Stephanie (Leggett) and husband Bryce, his father Donald, his mother Margret, and his brothers Mike and Greg and their families, who will all miss him terribly. However, we know for a fact he is in a much better place, no longer in pain, but completely healed and in the presence of God. As his family, we mourn but also rejoice! If you would like to join us in celebrating Steve's life, his service will be on Wednesday October 22nd at the Wenatchee First Assembly of God at 2 PM on 1520 McKittrick Street. Arrangements by Telford's Chapel of the Valley. Steve was passionate about ministry. So to honor him, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ministry of Mike and Lisa Moore who are currently serving in Jordan, helping Syrian refugees.
