Thomas "Tom" D. Summers

Thomas Devoy Summers Sr. was born February 14, 1946 to Oral D. and Loretta M. Summers in Portland, Oregon. He was the big brother to Catheryn M. Pollard who will treasure the many memories they made while growing up together. Tom lived in many places, but Wenatchee was home. Tom was a humble man with the biggest of hearts, the best laugh and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved his family and he loved life. He loved Susie! Tom had many jobs here in the Wenatchee Valley, to name a few and going back many years, he worked at Ernst and Big R (now Coastal Farm and ranch) but one of his favorite places to work was Confluence Health. It wasn't specifically that it was Confluence Health that made it one of his favorite places to work, it was the people. He loved to interact and see the people, to talk with the staff, to get to know them and in return to let them know him. He regarded them as an extension of his family. Tom had a special way of communicating that always made you feel heard and understood. He would stop what he was doing and give 100% of his attention, as if you were the most important thing in the world at that moment. You would always know he was coming down the hall because you could hear him saying "Hey there kiddo" and the person it was aimed at would beam. Tom loved to garden.....tomatoes were life! He and Susie were avid rockhounds and he shared his love of this with the young kids around his neighborhood. He also had a love for photography that he passed onto Susie. Tom believed that you should leave people better than you found them. He walked with grace, courage and dignity. After battling cancer, and due to complications, Tom passed away on Friday March 11, 2022 at Confluence Health. He will be missed greatly by his family and his community. He was preceded in death by his father, Oral and his mother, Loretta. He is survived by his wife Susie Summers, his sister Cathy Pollard, his children: Cary Ayers, Tammy Thomas, Tom Summers Jr., Richard Summers, Kara Young and Melissa Smith, his niece Kelly Rancipher as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Services for Tom will be held at Grace City Church, in the Chapel, located at 277 Melody Ln. Wenatchee, WA 98801 on Thursday March 24, 2022 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers Tom would have been so pleased to see donations, in his name, go to one of his favorite charities: The American Cancer Society or to Help Find a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes https://www.jdrf.org/ Arrangements assisted by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
