Troy LeVerne Cheney

Troy LeVerne Cheney, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, went to be with our Father in heaven, September 9, 2013. Troy was born in Lowell, Kansas on March 1, 1926 to Troye and Opal Cheney. Troy was the oldest of six children. From Kansas the family moved to Calico Rock, Arkansas where they were living when Troy decided to join the Navy at the age of 17. Troy sailed on the USS Cascade from 1944 until his Honorable Discharge in 1946. He learned to fire the big gun atop the ship, but mainly worked as the ships shoe repairman, also making wallets, belts and leather goods for the sailors and as gifts for the sailors friends and family. After Troy's discharge from the Navy the family moved to Wenatchee, Washington. Troy met his one true love Lenit Mary Layton in Okanogan, Washington, and they were married on August 16, 1947. They raised one son and five daughters in the Wenatchee area, and have called the Wenatchee Valley their home for 66 years. Troy attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church and had been a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the parish council and a jail ministry team member while attending Holy Apostles in East Wentchee. Troy worked as a supervisor for Alcoa for 35 years and in his spare time enjoyed working in his orchards in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee, where he said he found quiet moments to spend with God. Troy is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Lenit; son Mike Cheney and daughter Barbara Belt, both of Cortez, CO; daughter Marilynn Jaso (Tom) of Houston, TX; daughter Pam Prey of Spokane, WA; daughter Sandra Ordway (Cary) of Chelan, WA; brother Jim Cheney of Pendelton, OR; sister Veda Connor of Morgan Hill, CA; brother Lonnie Cheney of Hemet, CA; sister Sarah France of Monroe, WA; sister Betty Ross of Bastrop, TX; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Troy was proceeded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Reymond in 2011. There will be a Rosary at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 7 PM, Sunday, September 22 and a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph's at 11 AM, Monday, September 23, followed by inurnment at the Wenatchee Cemetery and a luncheon at Kuykendall Hall at St. Joseph's immediately after. The church is located at 625 S. Elliott Street, Wenatchee, WA.
