Wallace Marvin Morse

Wallace "Wally", "Kite", "Bopa", "Grandpa" Morse, 98, of Wenatchee, WA, went peacefully to be with the Lord on November 5, 2017, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, surrounded by family. Wally was born July 19, 1919, in Foulton County, IL, and graduated from Maquon High School, Maquon, IL, in 1940. He was drafted into the Army in 1941. After being honorably discharged in December of 1945 and receiving the World War II Victory Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon, and American Theatre Ribbon Expert Infantryman Badge, Wally moved to Mullan, ID, to work as an Explosives Specialist in the silver mines. In May of 1945, he married Alvina "Al" Larson Keenan, and they later made their permanent home in Wenatchee. Wally established his career with The Great Northern Railroad as a telegrapher, agent, operator, and station master. After retirement, Wally spent his time hunting, fishing, fly tying, camping, reading (Louie L'Amour westerns were his favorite), gardening, coin collecting, and traveling. He never let his age stop him. At 55, Wally bought a fancy yellow bicycle called a 10-speed; at 75, he got his ear pierced as it was in fashion; at 85, he bought a brand new Cadillac because he had always wanted one; and at 90, he bought an iPad so he could share pictures with family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and brother! Wally was blessed with incredible health and lived independently with his cat in his own home, until his passing. We are grateful to Meals on Wheels, Denise, Mike, Rachel, Darren, Alphonso, and many others who helped with his independence. Wally's infectious laugh and mischievous smile will be dearly missed. "He was one hell of a horse!" He is survived by brother, Steve Morse; sisters: Hazel Steagall, and Katherine Sharpshire; three grandchildren: Denise Recchia Agnew (Mike), David Recchia (Debbie), and Darcel Troy (Tom); eight great-grandchildren; and two great- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers: Roland, Leroy, Laverne "Buns", Herbert, Keith, and Ted Morse; three sisters: Vernece Webber, Wanda Morse, and Phyllis Baker; his parents; wife, Alvina Morse; longtime friend, Aileen Mills; and daughter, Betty Ann Recchia. A Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date.
