Walter Schreiber

Walter Schreiber East Wenatchee, WA Walter Schreiber went home to his Savior and Lord on March 3, 2012, surrounded by his family. Walt was born to Gottfried and Elizabeth Schreiber in Portland, OR on July 15, 1921. Walter graduated from Jefferson High School in 1938. He served in the CCC in Heppner, OR. He apprenticed with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1939, and the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1940. In the spring of 1944, he joined the Navy and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946, and later reenlisted in the Navy Reserve, serving in active duty during the Korean Conflict from September 1950 to February 1952. Walter returned to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a sheet metal worker, but soon transferred to the scheduling department, where he retired in August 1978, as the Head Scheduler. Walter married Sally Ann Gould on August 13, 1955, in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Walter is survived by his wife, Sally Ann of East Wenatchee, WA; his daughters, Barbara Marty of Port Orchard, WA and Carol (Mike) Vincent of Lake Oswego, OR; his son, David (Shirley) Schreiber of East Wenatchee, WA; his brother, Vernon (Pat) Schreiber of Vancouver, WA; and his sister, Bernice Brunson of Sumpter, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Marty of Bremerton, WA, Steven (Nicole) Marty of Kennewick, WA, Shannon Vincent of Portland, OR, Kyle (Melissa) Knott of East Wenatchee, WA and Kayla (Beau) Van Winkle of East Wenatchee, WA; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Fred Schreiber. He is also survived by his loving Boston terrier, Mini. Walter felt at home where ever he was, but especially at Rockaway Beach, OR, Kauai, HI or on any Holland America Cruise Ship, where he spent over 500 days at sea. He traveled extensively with his family. Walter was involved with church and many volunteer organizations. He impacted many lives and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Psalm 107: 33-21 At Walter's request, there will be No Services. Donations may be made, in his name, to the Salvation Army and New Song Community Church of East Wenatchee, WA. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
