William H. Jackson

William H. "Bill" Jackson, husband, father and grandfather, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Cashmere Convalescent Center. He was 82. Dad was born to Joseph and Florence (Tyler) Jackson on October 17, 1926, in Wenatchee. He spent his childhood growing up in the Monitor area and most of his adult life in the Wenatchee Valley. After high school, dad joined the United States Navy, serving from October 1944 through June 1946, aboard the USS Pickaway. When he returned home, dad worked numerous places, including a taxi cab business, the telephone company (where he met mom) and selling cars for the Pohlman Motor Company. He and mom moved to Pendleton, OR for a short time and he sold cars there, too. After returning to Wenatchee, he worked at Musty's Marina and other places, before working for Consolidated Freightways. He worked for them for over 20 years, and retired as terminal manager. In his early adult years, dad was active in the Elks Club, serving as Exalted Ruler in 1963. He was also an Eagle and a 50 year member of the Masons. In November 1951, he married Nona Myers at Coeur d'Alene, ID. They spent most of their life together in Wenatchee. Dad loved gardening, and provided many friends with tomatoes and cucumbers, until his health prevented it. He also loved old westerns and boxing on TV. His biggest pleasure was his grandchildren. Dad is survived by daughter, Denise (Gary) Jeffris of Cashmere; son, Dennis of Wenatchee; grandchildren, Marnie Cockrill of Seattle, Tim (Victoria) Jeffris of Ellensburg, Megan Jeffris of Cashmere and Dustin and Colby Jackson of Wenatchee; brother-in-law, Wayne Deardorff; and nieces Debbie Deardorff, Diane Ramirez and Darcy Stevens, all of Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Nona; and sister-in-law, Althe Deardorff. A special thank you to the staff at Cashmere Convalescent, who made dad's last days very comfortable. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wenatchee Cemetery, with Pastor Cheryl Fear officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW post 3617, East Wenatchee. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
