Bernice Linnie Montgomery

Bernice L. Montgomery Wenatchee, WA Bernice was born on January 20, 1917, in Swifton, AR to Linnie Billingsly Forrest and Henry Forrest. She married Homer P. Montgomery on June 24, 1935, in Arkansas and shortly thereafter moved to the Wenatchee area of Washington State and worked alongside Homer in the fruit industry. Bernice supported Homer in managing Columbia River Orchards for Ed Ginsenger for many years. They then owned and operated their own orchards in East Wenatchee. Bernice was a longtime member of the Wenatchee Church of Christ and in recent years also enjoyed the fellowship of the Quincy Free Methodist Church and the Eastmont Community Church. Bernice was in the retail clothes business as co-owner of the Clothesline with her sister-in-law, Laura. She also co-owned and operated the Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio with her daughter, Melba. Bernice finally retired in her eighties. Bernice was blessed with two daughters, Melba Kathleen and Patricia Ann. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer P.; two sisters; three brothers; and her daughter, Patricia Ann Witte. Bernice is survived by her sister, Helen Taylor; her daughter, Melba K. Zoglman (Robert); and her son-in-law, Alan Witte (Laine), all reside in East Wenatchee. Bernice is also survived by four grandchildren, Jeff Roberts (Michelle) of Palm Desert, CA, Jennifer Johnson (Kent) of Cleveland, OH, Erin Witte (Alisa DeSart) of Huntington Beach, CA and Heather Witte (David Stegeman) of Gig Harbor, WA; five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kyleigh Roberts, Makenzie Johnson and Nicholas and Campbell Stegeman; and many nephews and nieces. Mother was blessed with beauty inside and out. Her ongoing love and service to the Lord, her family, church and friends was a wonderful example to all who came to know her. Mom, aka GRAMMIE, we will all miss you. Your wonderful smile and loving heart will be with us always. Services will be held Friday, January 20, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at King's Orchard Church of Christ, 1610 Orchard Street, Wenatchee. Concluding Services will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. A reception will follow from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Viewing will be Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or church of choice in memory of Bernice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
