Bonnie Jean Eschwig

Bonnie Jean Eschwig, 88, of Wenatchee, WA, went to be with the Lord on February 4, 2015. Bonnie was born August 11, 1926, in Wenatchee, WA to Rose and Roy Macarty. She grew up in the Wenatchee Valley and attended grade school, HB Ellison Junior High and Wenatchee High School, Class of '44. She worked for more than 25 years at Sloan's Variety Store, until they closed their business. Bonnie met her husband, Fred, within a few weeks after World War II ended, while he was visiting relatives in Wenatchee. Before they were married however, he was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After the Korean Conflict ended, she and Fred Eschwig were married on July 1, 1951. They were married just a few weeks shy of their 62nd Anniversary when her husband passed away. She and Fred had two children, Simona and Curtis. They raised their family in the home that Fred built in the Sunnyslope area. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends on many camping and fishing trips. Bonnie and Fred loved to travel, whether by car or in their motorhome. She had two wonderful trips to South Dakota (enjoying Devil's Tower, Yellowstone, and other national parks). Her siblings were all born in Billings, MT. She had an opportunity to take her older sister, who had not been to Billings for over 60 years, to Billings to find the old homestead. It was a most memorable trip. She loved to cook and bake. Everything she made was from scratch, with a little pinch of an ingredient here and a dash of some other spice there. Saying Bonnie was an excellent cook would be a huge understatement. She was a member of a Pinochle Club for over 50 years. She and her husband were members of the Y's Men's Association at the YMCA and The Good Sam's Club. She belonged to the Sunnyslope Church of the Brethren for over 63 years and is leaving behind many loving church friends. Her ready smile and beautiful blue eyes were always present and will be greatly missed by many. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her parents; two sisters, Bobbie and Peggy; and three brothers, Swede, Art and John. She is survived by her brother, Harold (Joyce) McCarty; children, Simona (Ed) Byrd, and Curt (Deb) Eschwig; step-children, Richard (Susie) Eschwig, Fredrick (Judy) Eschwig and Charlene Eschwig; three granddaughters, Kelli (Will) Wright, Lisa Eschwig, and Erin (Jeff) Harvey; four great-grandchildren, Gunner and Kristin Harvey, Katie and Jodi Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, with a Graveside Service immediately following at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. Memorial donations may be made in Bonnie's name to the Sunnyslope Church Building Fund. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a Celebration of Life at Sunnyslope Church of the Brethren for refreshments following the Services. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
