Bonnie Jo Melton

Bonnie Jo Melton passed into heavenly arms on Monday, April 7, 2014. She was born in Batesville, AR on February 20, 1949. The family lived in Brockwell, AR and Bonnie completed elementary school at Violet Hill. In 1962, the family moved to Wenatchee, WA, where Bonnie completed her education; graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1966 and Wenatchee Valley College in 1968. She graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1970, with a degree in Social Work. While looking for a position, she worked at a daycare for special needs kids and young adults. She found her true calling there and returned to Eastern Washington University for a degree in Special Education. Her teaching years were spent in Heart Butte and Lame Deer, MT. She enjoyed her years there immensely. When she returned to Wenatchee, she worked for several years at McDougall's and really liked the friendly atmosphere there. She absolutely loved to read, often two or three books at a time. Her favorites were murder mysteries and true crime. When she became unable to read, she found equal pleasure in television and movie mysteries. Sunday afternoons were devoted to "Snapped" marathons. There were no exceptions. Not even if a little niece or nephew wanted to watch 'SpongeBob'. Another hobby for Bonnie was cooking and baking. She was a great cook and family, friends and coworkers enjoyed the fruits of her labors. She also found a lot of pleasure spending time with nieces and nephews, and eventually with great nieces and nephews. In 1985, she met a kindred spirit and life partner, David Henry. They enjoyed several years together before his passing. The family wants to express sincere thanks to Kellie for caring for Bonnie for the last 22 months. She was kind and patient, even when Bonnie was a grumpy, old bear. This enabled Bonnie to stay at home until the end. She is survived by her mother, Cornelia Melton; her sister, Connie of White Swan; and her brothers, John (LauVonne) and Donald (Kellie), all in Wenatchee. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, Edward, Josh, Michael, Savannah, Harmony, Caitlin and Zach; and the newest generation of great-nieces and nephews, Stacy, Otis, Sari, Rythm, Isaac, Samara and Jaxson. She has been met in Heaven by her father, Otis "Pete" Melton; her Melton grandparents; her Foust grandparents; two aunts; two uncles; one nephew; and David Henry. Telford's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of the arrangements.
