Dorothea "Dotty Jo" Jaspers

Dorothea Joan “Dotty Jo” Jaspers, 89, of Wenatchee, died August 26, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born February 12, 1937, in Central City, Nebraska, to Elmer and Helen Batliner. At age nine, she moved with her parents and sister to Orondo, Washington, where her family worked in the apple industry. She grew up in Sunnyslope, attended local schools, and graduated from Wenatchee High School. Dotty married the love of her life, Donald Jaspers, on September 15, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wenatchee. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys. She marked each grandchild’s high school graduation by creating a special cross-stitched gift. Dotty cherished the memory of being a Sunnyslope Princess in the Apple Blossom Parade. Years later, when her children attended Sunnyslope Elementary School, their teachers hoped to have a Jaspers in class because Dotty gave each teacher a box of her delectable homemade fudge for Valentine’s Day. Some of Dotty’s favorite family times were spent camping at Lake Chelan, playing in the water or on the beach and gathering for evening potluck meals. Every Christmas, she went into baking mode, preparing a beautiful gift box of special cookies for each of her children and grandchildren and decorating every box with a big bow. After Don’s death, she worked as an office clerk at Wenatchee Valley Clinic. She later moved from Sunnyslope into Wenatchee, where she made many new friends and enjoyed meeting them for coffee at the Meadowridge clubhouse. She loved reading, belonged to two book clubs, and treasured gatherings with friends and former classmates from the Wenatchee High School Class of 1955, whom she often met for lunch. Dotty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she served as a greeter for many years. She also belonged to the St. Lazarus Guild, helping at receptions and luncheons following memorial services. The Gonzaga men’s basketball team and the Seahawks football team were her favorites to cheer for. After a close Seahawks game, you could expect an immediate phone call from Dotty to discuss an exciting outcome or a controversial, game-changing call by the officials. Dotty’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her friends and the staff at Blossom Valley, who extended so much kindness to her during the past year, and to the hospice nurses and staff who provided her with such compassionate care. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Helen Batliner; her husband, Don Jaspers; and her sister, Judy Couch. She is survived by her five children, Debbie (Mark) Roy, Diane (Conan) Workman, Darla (Gordy) St. Germain, Dan (Becky) Jaspers, and Dennis (Janet) Jaspers; twelve grandchildren, Layna St. Germain McVay, Drew St. Germain, Eric Roy, Kodi Jo Jaspers, Katie Luedeman, Lexi Jaspers, Brook Stewart, Jasper St. Germain, Curtis Roy, Jacob Roy, Jesse Jaspers, and Jade Jaspers; eight great-grandchildren; her cousin, Terri (Charles) McKay; and many nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Chapel of the Valley, 378 Eastmont Avenue, East Wenatchee, Washington. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 625 South Elliott Avenue, Wenatchee, Washington and a graveside service will immediately follow the Mass at the Wenatchee Cemetery, 1804 N Western Ave., Wenatchee, WA. A luncheon reception back at St. Joseph Catholic Church will follow the graveside service. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mobile Meals of Wenatchee, the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society or to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
