Dr. Edgar Meyer

Dr. Edgar Meyer peacefully passed with his loving family at his side, on April 12, 2025, at his home. Edgar Arthur Meyer was born in Davenport, Iowa on June 13, 1926, to Herbert and Edith Meyer. He was raised by loving parents on a typical Iowa farm, along with 2 sisters and 1 brother. He attended a neighborhood one-room school until the 9th grade, then to Davenport schools. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the Navy ROTC at DePauw University for pre-med. After those 2 years he transferred into the Army Medical ROTC at University of Iowa, where he met Jean Dawson. They married on August 22, 1948. He graduated from UI in 1950, and they moved to St Louis for a 2-year internship. Then they were stationed in Stuttgart and Munich Germany for 2 more years. While there they had wonderful travels, touring much of Europe and learning to snow ski. After his discharge from the Army, they moved to the Dalles, OR where he was part of a family practice office. My parents loved the beauty of the West; it was what they called here from the Midwest. On a car drive to Washington, they discovered Cashmere and that was their next move in 1955. He had his office in Cashmere until he retired. They always loved the mountains and grandeur of our area. They stayed in the same house, with the same home phone number until my dad’s passing. Jean passed away on February 5, 2019. They were happily married for 70+ years. I may be a bit prejudiced by I have to say that my dad was an amazing man and father. My brother and I had a life full of love and were blessed to have him in our lives with his clear, inquisitive mind intact for all these years. He was the Absolute Best father. I have a big hole in my heart that will mend eventually but he is so missed now! He is well known for his War against Noxious Weeds in his retirement years. He never could sit still. Always working on something, whether it was helping someone or anything to be active: Snow skiing, tennis, golf, sailing, Rotary, Cashmere Methodist church or family activities. Too many to list them all. He was preceded in death by his older brother Warren Meyer, an older sister Janette Robertson, a younger sister, Ardith Wilkens and his wife, Jean. He is survived by his daughter, Anne Anderson (Greg), Son, Scott. Grandchildren: Josslyn Meyer (Emma), Andrew Muhs(Brenda), Benjamin Muhs, Jordan Muhs (Emily + baby Victoria due to arrive in June), Madison Thompson, Jesse Lindsay (Kerry) and a very Special Friend, Star, who is a wonderful part of our family. Great grandchildren: Elijah, Drew, Miles and Kai (Andrew) and Maya, Micah (Benjamin). He was always an active participant in his grandchildren/great grandchildren’s lives. They played ping pong in his basement, went hiking, played sports, watched sports. Always sharing his vast knowledge with all of us. Even the day before he left us. What a man! So loved and so quick to love others and care for Everyone! I always thought that he was another Marcus Welby MD! Thank you, Cashmere, for loving and watching after my dad (Mr Independent). He wanted “No Notoriety” but deserves so much. I am sure someday when we meet again, I will be in lots of trouble writing this long note! Oh well, he was really a special man. A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, July 13th, 4-8 pm at 3126 Ridgeway Dr., East Wenatchee, WA. Arrangements by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
