Frank Smith

East Wenatchee, WA ~Frank was born in San Diego, CA to Eulise Coy and Nellie Louise Smith. Throughout his youth, he moved with family to numerous states on both the East and West coasts and lived several years on Guam. Frank married Wendy Gullett from Monitor, in 1974, and together they raised three children, Kathy, Brad, and Michael. Frank worked for Welch Orchard and Packing Plant driving trucks, then as a cook at McKenzies Café. He was known for his "World Famous Chili" and won several chili cook off awards throughout the years. He owned and operated a sandwich shop in the Doneen Building on Wenatchee Ave. and founded the Smith and Son's Fruit Stand. Next, he served 28 varieties of hot dogs at Frank's Hot Dog Stand in the last 1920 gas station in Washington state, on the corner of Spokane and Wenatchee Ave. Frank drove trucks long haul to all 50 states, then owned and operated Outlaw's Second Hand and Pawn Shop. He and a partner obtained the first Pawn Broker license in Douglas County. For several years, Frank hosted a free Christmas dinner in Wenatchee for all who could attend. Later, he and wife Wendy moved to Ephrata, WA, where they owned and operated Wendy's Steakhouse and Tavern and the Oak Tree Inn Restaurant. In 1990, they moved to Anchorage, AK, where Frank worked as General Manager for the largest (63 bed) privately owned assisted living home, for mentally ill adults, in the state. After 19 years with Anchor House, Frank and wife, Wendy, retired and relocated to Oregon, and in 2012, returned to East Wenatchee to be closer to grandchildren. ~Frank was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mac, Tim, and Terry; all three children, Kathy, Brad, and Michael; and granddaughter, Wendlyn Olmos. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Smith of East Wenatchee, WA; sister, Eunice Norris of Bend, OR; and brother, Fred (Lynn) Swanson of Bremerton, WA. He has five grandchildren including Tommie Smith of Portland, OR; Chantelle Olmos of Entiat, WA; Marcus (Gabriela Mercado) Olmos of Jalpa Zacatecas, Mexico; Shayne Smith of East Wenatchee, WA; and Chelsea Smith of Anchorage, AK. He has three great-grandchildren, Brendan Paz Olmos of Entiat, WA, and Michael and Lilly Smith of East Wenatchee, WA. Frank is survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family members, too numerous to name. ~A Celebration of Life is being held at his home on Friday, October 30, 2015, at noon. Arrangements are assisted by Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee.
