Glorian Gweneth Johnson

Glorian Gweneth Johnson, beloved mother, cherished friend and moral compass, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at her home of 55 years in East Wenatchee, after a gracious and inspiring journey, while in the clutches of Alzheimer's disease. In the days leading up, she received a constant vigil of family and friends, while keeping her unwavering love for them all. Gwen was born to Wright and Iris Dean on October 6, 1926, in Wenatchee, WA. She was the younger of two daughters, Jeanette (Bailor), the two were best friends and almost inseparable. Gwen was full of pride in growing up on her family's orchard along the banks of the Columbia River, just south of East Wenatchee and being part of the 'Bridge Walker' contingent of her day. Upon graduating from Wenatchee High School, she went on to then, College of Puget Sound, and in 1948, earned her Teaching Certificate and Master's Degree in English. During this time, she met Frank Johnson, her soon-to-be husband for the next 57 years. Together they thrived and persisted in the valley's fruit industry as growers, packers, fruit stand operators, developers and finally, retiring after 40 prosperous years. Gwen effortlessly shared her sparkling love between all her friends and family. The unwavering devotion to three adoring children, Skip, Jeanne and Dena, knew no bounds. The duty of being mother was steadfast. Always leading by example, she thrived in the responsibility of being an involved parent, boastful grandparent, loving sister, comforting cousin, generous aunt and fantastic friend. Truly, she excelled at creating special memories for all those around her. Gwen's life overflowed with treasured friends, who she could not be without and who meant the world to her. Together, they participated in activities ranging from Pinochle Parties, Brethren-Baptist Church Guild, Wenatchee Valley Doll Club, Attic Dusters and just darn good visits as often as possible. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on November 3, 2007; and sister, Jeanette (Bailor). Surviving are her daughters, Dena Johnson and Jeanne Griffin (her husband, Tim and grandchildren, Dan and Holly); and son, Skip Johnson (his wife, Cindy and grandson, Colton), all of East Wenatchee. The public is invited to attend a Celebration of her Life to be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee, at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010. Memorial donations may be made to: Brethren-Baptist Church United, 535 Okanogan Avenue, Wenatchee or Serve Wenatchee Valley, 212 S. Mission Street, Wenatchee. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
