Larry Wass

Larry Allen Wass, a cherished long-time East Wenatchee resident, entered his eternal home on October 3, 2024. In his passing, he was reunited with his sister, Mary Jo Wright, who preceded him last month on September 3, 2024 and his parents, Harold and Dorothy Wass. Born on December 13, 1948, in Mason City, Iowa, Larry spent his early years surrounded by the warmth and joy of a large extended family, where aunts, uncles, and cousins filled the street where he lived. In 1960, his family relocated to Joplin, Missouri. After completing high school, Larry pursued his passion for mechanics, excelling in Automotive Mechanic School, where he graduated at the top of his class. In 1968, Larry made his way to East Wenatchee, beginning a long career at Alcoa, a role he held until his well-deserved retirement. Larry also volunteered as a Reserve Police Officer for the Wenatchee Police Department for many years. While Larry's greatest pride and joy was his family, especially his children and grandchildren, his love for auto racing, hunting, and fishing was a close second. He spent countless cherished moments deep-sea fishing along the coast, competing in bass tournaments with his son Chuck, and enjoying hunting trips with both of his sons, Jason and Chuck, and his grandson, Jordan. Larry's passion for the outdoors was a legacy he passed on to his sons, who have continued to share these beloved traditions with their own children. He found great joy in being a part of his granddaughter Shasten's racing team for many years and passing on his knowledge to her. Larry also treasured the time spent with his Texas grandchildren, Kaylin and Chad, who visited many summers, creating countless special memories together along with his daughter, Katie. For decades, Larry was a familiar presence at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, either behind the wheel as a driver or as part of a pit crew, sharing the exhilaration of racing with friends and family. His Saturdays were often filled with the roar of engines and the camaraderie of fellow racing enthusiasts. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy Wass, his sister, Mary Jo Wright, and brother-in-law, Dave Forkner. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his children, Chuck Wass of East Wenatchee; Katie (Roger) Milholland of Kempner, Texas; Jason (Brook) Pickering of Wenatchee; and Bree (Billy) Rose of Catawba, North Carolina. Grandchildren: Shasten (Dustin) Machin, Kaylin (Michael) Patschke, Jordan Wass, Chad Milholland, Jacob Hinton, Ethan Pickering, Carlee Rose, Cassidy Rose, Dawson Hasty, Scott Hasty, Andrew Seery, 4 great-grandchildren, his sister, Patty Forkner, brother-in-law, JK Wright, Raelyn Cox (Shasten and Jordan's mom) who was a special part of Larry's life for many years, and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry's life was marked by his compassion and dedication to family and friends. He had a heart for children facing life-threatening illnesses and was a faithful donor to St. Jude's. In his honor, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude's in lieu of flowers. A Celebration of Larry's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will come together to honor his memory and the love and laughter he brought into their lives.
