Marian Gladys Huggins

Marian G. Huggins, 91 years young, passed away on March 26, 2019. She was born in Wenatchee on August 4, 1927 to Murrel & Gladys Roske. This began Marian's life-long love for the Wenatchee Valley. On February 1, 1963, Marian married the Love of Her Life, Don Huggins. In 1965, they opened "Huggins Shoes" in downtown Wenatchee. They owned and operated the shoe store until 1988 when they retired. Marian and husband Don were strong supporters of the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival. They joined Wenatchee Applarians in 1973, and served as Chancellor & 1st Lady for the Applarians in 1989. In February 2001, at the Royalty Selection Pageant, Don & Marian were surprised with the coveted Apple Blossom Festival 2001 Leman Johnson award, given to them for their outstanding volunteer service & community support. After Don's passing, Marian continued her support and volunteering for the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival & Wenatchee Applarians. Marian and Don loved to travel, and spending time at Lake Chelan. Together they built an A-frame cabin on the north shore in Manson, doing most of the work themselves. Marian was a founding member of Grace Lutheran Church. At the time of her passing, she was one of the longest running members of the congregation. Marian enjoyed volunteering and sitting on many committees, including prayer partner and the quilting club. Marian graduated from Wenatchee High School class of 1945, as the secretary. She continued her support by helping to plan and even MC several reunion activities, including the monthly "Lunch Bunch." Out of High School, Marian worked at the Wenatchee Valley Clinic for a number of years. She was also a member of Woman's Republican, and the Downtown Business Association. Some of the many qualities Marian will be remembered for was her great smile and sense of humor. Social butterfly is a term often used to describe Marian, as she never missed saying hello to everyone in the room. She loved to show her talent through water color paintings and sewing new dresses for her granddaughter over the years. She found her passion in gardening, home decor and even designing the floor plan for her and Don's home. More recently, Marian's love for her great-grandson proved strong in attending many school and sport performances. Survivors include her son, Dale Holland and wife Pam of Enumclaw; granddaughter JoAnna Holland of Wenatchee; great-grandson Storm Hedman of Wenatchee; 1 nephew and 2 nieces, Chris Roske, Margot McLaughlin of Seattle, Lisa Mattix and husband Steve of Wenatchee; 2 great-nephews, Ryan Mattix, Andy Mattix and wife Lynda; 3 great-great-nieces, and 1 great- great-nephew, Charli Mattix, Randi Mattix, Mattisyn Mattix & Jace Mattix. Funeral services for Marian Huggins will be held Thursday, April 4, at 1pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 1408 Washington St., Wenatchee. Presiding will be Pastor Aalgaard. Concluding services will follow in Wenatchee City Cemetery. A light reception will be directly after at Grace Lutheran Church. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee.
