Marvin Mitchell

Marv was born in Wenatchee to Homer and Fern Mitchell. He had two older brothers, Robert “Bob” and Homer “Spike” and one younger brother Wilbur. Marv grew up at the family home on Sunset Highway in East Wenatchee, attending the local schools through 9th grade. Marv grew up fishing and hunting with his father, uncles and brothers. One day, while walking, he saw his future bride, Patricia “Pat” Cronkhite. They fell madly in love and married on November 11, 1951. They were blessed with four children, DeVonna, Tim, Steve and Harold. His family was his greatest love. After Tim’s birth, Marv moved his young family into a small house on five acres on the outskirts of East Wenatchee, which is still the family home. Marv raised his family, instilling his strong ethics and high integrity into his kids. He shared his love of outdoors, taking his family on “scouting trips” in the mountains, teaching them to ride and the value of hard work. He could fix anything that needed it using odds and ends, make tools with whatever was on hand and build whatever he needed. He and the boys tore down old buildings using the materials, renovating his small family home into a huge three-story home and building numerous out buildings and a shop. He never had plans, he “drew” them in his head and went from there. Marv worked for Wenatchee Irrigation District and Alcoa prior to joining Bob Feil’s Boats and Motors in the mid-1950s, as their mechanic, until his retirement in his 70’s. Marv was revered as the number one boat and snowmobile mechanic and fiberglass master in the valley. While young, Marv developed his baseball skills, playing in school and later for the Alcoa recreational team. While in junior high, Marv was often pulled from school to pitch for the Wenatchee High School team. Marv shared his love of fishing and hunting with his brothers, sons and grandsons. Marv was an excellent shot, many times making the shot that no one else could. Rarely failing, he fed his family by using his hunting and fishing skills. He would start hunting in September and continue through February. He always included his sons, nephews and family friends, while sharing his knowledge and skills. Marv continued hunting and fishing into his late 80’s. Marv’s passion for fishing developed at an early age and continued throughout his life. He would often go down to the river after work, fishing throughout the night and then going to work at Feil’s. Marv started tournament fishing on the local circuit in the early 1980’s, winning many awards and accolades and making a name for himself. Of course, he was sponsored by Feil’s. Marv is survived by his daughter DeVonna, sons Steven (Bobbie) and Harold (Jessica), grandchildren Jeff (Janelle), Eric (Nicole), Adam (Candance), Megan, Sierra, Georgia, Clint, Wyatt and Skyler, great grandchildren Travis, Matthew and Jace, brother Spike and numerous nieces and nephews. Marv was predeceased by his loving wife, Pat, son Tim, brothers Bob and Wilbur, son-in-law Gary Sehorn and granddaughter Terri. Marv was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 11, 11:00 am at Chapel of the Valley, 378 Eastmont Ave., East Wenatchee followed by a Graveside at Evergreen Memorial Park. Following the Graveside, a reception will be held immediately following at the Eastmont Community Center, In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
