Mary Orndorf

Mary Lee Orndorf was born on Wednesday, March 25, 1931, to John and Gladys (Howe) Smith in Deepwater, MO. She passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the age of 90. As a young child, the family moved from Missouri to Washington and Mary graduated from Tonasket High School in 1949. After graduation Mary moved to Spokane, WA to attend Kinman Business School, prior to making her lifetime move to the Wenatchee area. After moving to Wenatchee, a classmate from Tonasket introduced Mary to Warren C Orndorf and it didn't take long to know they were meant to be lifelong partners. Warren and Mary were married in Wenatchee on September 19, 1953. They were married until his passing in 1992. Prior to the birth of their first child, Mary worked at Wells & Wade Hardware and Seattle First National Bank. Mary began her career at the Wenatchee National Forest in 1968, retiring in 2007 after 39 years of service. Mary loved her time at the Forest Service and spent many summers traveling the states as part of an Incident Management Team. Before her retirement, the Mary Orndorf Award was established and awarded to her. The award recognizes personal dedication to, and long-term support of, the Forest's Wildfire Suppression Mission. The Award is presented annually to spotlight the outstanding contributions of employees that work at the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Mary was an example of a person with an extremely strong work ethic and was dedicated to any endeavor. She loved her family dearly and was always there to support them. The family has wonderful memories, and she will be deeply missed. Mary enjoyed reading, cross stitch, puzzles, and loved her daily walks around the neighborhood. Mary is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Randy) Low of Wenatchee, WA and Lori (Jim) Stewart of East Wenatchee, WA, her Granddaughters Kristen (Jay) Vernon and Stacy (Jason) Troupin, and Great Grandsons Jacob and Nathan Vernon all of Puyallup, WA, her brother Stanley Smith of Coulee City, WA and sister Charlotte Webb, of Omak, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, her sister Luveta VanBrunt, and her parents. At Mary's wishes, there will be no service.
