Paul A. Pankey

Paul Arnold Pankey, 84, passed away on December 17, 2021, at Central Washington Hospital of heart failure. He was born in Yakima, WA, on March 30, 1937, to Elmer and Christine Pankey. He attended Yakima schools, graduating from Yakima High in l955. He attended Yakima Valley Junior College, graduating in l957. Paul joined the Marine Corps Reserve as a private on December 5, l954, in Yakima, WA. In l957 he entered active duty and served on the Inspector-Instructor staff in Yakima. In l958 he completed the Marine Security Guard School and served as a security guard at the American Embassies in Baghdad, Iraq, and Panama City, Panama. In l961 he returned to the states to attend college under the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education program. Paul attended the University of Idaho, graduating as a civil engineer, and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. He served in many billets, attended various schools, spent several tours in Viet Nam, and was in Desert Storm. In l993 Paul retired as a Colonel from Landing Force Training Command Pacific in Coronado, CA. In May, l996, Paul graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity (while in Oak Harbor, WA, he completed a Master's Degree in Human Resources from Pepperdine University). In December, l997, he was called to be Associate Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Wenatchee, WA, which eventually became Saddlerock Evangelical Presbyterian Church. On December 30, 2013, he retired as Pastor Emeritus. Paul was a Rotarian and assisted children riding horses at Alatheia. Paul enjoyed many activities with the church including several mission trips through Saddlerock EPC and visiting and caring for people. Throughout Paul's life, his favorite pastimes were sailing, tennis, golf, playing games (especially bridge). He also liked spending time at The Bunker talking with the Vets. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sydna, son Bruce, daughter Jill (Ron Kietzer), grandson Michael, granddaughter Jessica, and great-grandson Eli. Also, his brother, David (Kathy), sister-in-law Joyce Reese, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Anthony. A Celebration of Life will be held at Saddlerock Evangelical Church, 1400 S. Miller St., Wenatchee, WA on February 12, 2022 at 2 pm. At the family's request, masks are required.
