Raymond A. Wallin

Raymond "Ray" A. Wallin, a long-time resident of Ephrata, WA, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2016. He was born to Rudolph and Anna (Raymond) Wallin on March 26, 1917. Ray, along with his brother, Ira and sister, Elizabeth (Betty) were raised in Two Harbors, MN. He attended local schools including the University of Minnesota, majoring in Civil Engineering. Ray served with the Army Signal Corps during WWII and was honorably discharged on April 15, 1946. Ray married Claire Ludwig on July 14, 1942. After his time in the military, he moved his family to Washington State and, soon thereafter, to Kalamath Falls, OR, where he started his career with the Power Resources Center. In 1950, he transferred to the Columbia River Project Office in Ephrata, where he had wide-ranging assignments in the design, construction, and operation and maintenance of irrigation systems throughout the Basin. He retired from the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation in December, 1979. At home in the outdoors, Ray loved fishing, traveling and gardening. An avid fan of "his" Mariners and Seahawks, he also followed Ephrata High School teams, especially when his grandsons, Mike and Sean, were playing. He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Claire, on December 24, 1987. He married Alice Glenn Neese in May of 1990. She passed away on August 18, 2013. He is survived by his children: Nancy (Roger) Frenette of Lakewood, CO, Bruce (Colleen) Wallin of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Patti Ferguson of Ephrata, WA; seven grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. A Celebration of Ray's Life is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Bonaventure Living in East Wenatchee, WA, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., followed by a visitation and viewing at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at GracePoint Church in Ephrata at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately thereafter at the Ephrata Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, P. O. Box 1952, Clarksburg, MD 20871. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wentachee.
