Robert Glann

Robert "Ray" Glann, 87, of East Wenatchee, WA, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family, on Sunday, January 18, 2009. Ray was born November 22, 1921, to Arthur and Lucille (Curtis) Glann in Wenatchee, WA. Ray, his older brother, Wes and his younger sister, Helen, spent their youth helping their father in their East Wenatchee orchard. Ray was a "bridge-walker" in his high school years, and would have to walk about four miles to Wenatchee High School, each day to go to school. Ray's life-long ambition, even in high school, was to fly planes. Ray began active duty in the Army Air Corps in February of 1943, and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. After flight training, he received orders to train to fly B-24 bombers. By December 31, 1944, Ray was on his way to Italy, where he piloted and completed 19 bombing missions. While on leave in Wenatchee in 1945, Ray reunited with his future wife, Rosalie Gustafson. Ray and Rosie married on April 27, 1946, in Coeur dAlene, ID. After WWII, Ray flew cargo and search and rescue out of McChord Air Force Base. In 1951, Ray trained to fly B-26 bombers and served in the Korean War. He received an honorable separation from the military in January 1953, and he went to work in Wenatchee for a small company by the name of Van Doren Sales. In Ray's own words, he "spent 34 years spending money for them..." Officially though, he was the Purchasing Agent. Throughout the years, Ray was an avid gun collector and a lifetime member of the NRA. He could dance on roller-skates. He could water-ski from the yacht club to Manson on one ski. He also loved to travel the world. All of his hobbies, he would give them all up, if it meant he could not dance the night away with his "sweetie" Rosie. Ray had three children, Terry Rae, Bob and Dianna and three grandchildren. The wisdom and stories, the safety he has always provided, and the devotion to his family, will be missed by us all. On October 29, 2008, the love of Ray's life passed away. To the family, her passing was such a short time ago, but to Ray it was an eternity. After 62 years together, he felt two and a half months apart was long enough. Ray is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Glann, Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Renton, WA; his daughter, Dianna Wooten and her husband, Lonnie of East Wenatchee; his grandchildren, Amber Dee Rosalie Glann of Wenatchee and Heath Wooten and Nathan Wooten, both of East Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Glann; one daughter, Terry Rae Glann; his mother and father; three brothers and one sister. A Memorial Service will be held at Telfords Chapel of the Valley on Friday, January 23, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jay Caron officiating. Those who wish, may make memorial donations to American Legion Post #10, Wenatchee or American Diabetes Association. Private Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
