Roger L. Decker

Roger L. Decker July 6, 1935 ~ March 24, 2014 Roger Decker, 78, died peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2014. He was born on July 6, 1935, and raised in Three Rivers, Michigan, turning a tough childhood into a magnificent life, full of love and professional achievement. In 1956, he served in the Korean War as a construction surveyor in the U.S. Army, building runways in both England and Germany. He received an Accounting degree from the University of Florida, where he met his college sweetheart, Marlene. They were married in her hometown of Naples, Florida on August 14, 1960. Furthering his education, Roger then earned a Law degree from Duke University. They moved to Seattle, WA and he began his career working for the law firm of Helsell Fetterman. He later moved to Bellevue, WA, forming Boyd & Decker Law firm and was instrumental in the development of downtown Bellevue. Roger was a Rotarian, and an avid tennis player at Central Park Tennis Club. He loved traveling with his family, boating in the San Juans, salmon fishing in Canada, hunting, camping and many other outdoor activities. They created many wonderful memories raising the four boys on their Bear Creek Farm in Redmond, WA. Upon retiring, they moved to East Wenatchee, WA, joining the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club and spent endless hours enjoying golf. Roger achieved the rare accomplishment of a Hole-in-One on in 2003. Their winters were spent as snowbirds in Green Valley, AZ and Palm Desert, CA playing many different golf courses with good friends, dining out and soaking up the sun. He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Marlene; and his four sons, Dave of Redmond, WA, Ron (Isabel) of Las Vegas, NV, Dale of Bothell, WA, and Mark (Janelle) of Everett, WA; and seven precious grandchildren, Faith, Grace, Hope, Kate, Jack, Ryan and Drew. He was a kind, thoughtful and generous man, who will be greatly missed by those who loved him. The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Highgate and Bonaventure for their loving care. A private family memorial was held at Roger's request. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 27, 2014, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club in East Wenatchee.
