Russ Matney

Russell Jay Matney, born on August 18th, 1938 passed peacefully at his home in Cashmere on August 2, 2024. He has gone home to his God almighty, his loving wife, daughter, parents and numerous siblings. Russell was born in Smackout, Missouri to Thomas and Anna Matney. He was raised alongside his 5 brothers and 4 sisters moving to Arkansas and then making their home in Idaho as the kids became adults. Russ, as he liked to be called, joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in November of 1958 having been stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV. Russell met the love of his life Kathy in 1970, marrying May 7th of 1971. Russell became the loving father of her 2 twin baby boys from a previous marriage, joining his 3 children from his previous relationship. Martha Ann, his 4th child sadly passed in a car accident as a baby. Russ and Kathy had 3 children together, completing the transition as a blended family. They lived happily together at their home in Cashmere until Kathy’s death in April of 2012. Russ was proud of his family and his military participation earning him the title of United States of America Veteran. Russ is survived by his children, Steven Manning (Jared), Rusty Matney (DeAnna), Rebecca Snodgrass, Mark Shaw(Bobbie), Richard Shaw, Russell Matney Jr. (Mari), Kathy Matney-Harris(Annette), Karana Gossman and his adopted son, Jason O’Brien. His brother, Larry Matney (Linda); and sisters, Shirley Chadwick and Rachel Darlens, of Idaho. Russ had many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, adopted kids they helped raise, and amazing in-laws and friends who stood by him throughout the years. Russ is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, his daughter, and many siblings. Russ and Kathy will be laid to rest at their home in Cashmere on August 18, 2024. Arrangements by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, August 18, 1:00pm, 4620 Old Monitor Rd., Cashmere.
