Thomas Arthur Allen

Thomas A. Allen Wenatchee, WA Our beloved father, Thomas A. Allen, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Dad was born August 27, 1921, in Seattle, WA, to Francis and Arthur Allen. He was born and raised on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle, WA. He began working to support his family at 11, making sure they survived the Great Depression. In high school, he was a talented athlete and active in track; however, due to the need to support his family, he continued his pursuit of learning outside of the classroom after grade ten. Dad loved his country and proudly served in the Marines as a Staff Sargent from 1941 until 1945. While in the Marines, he met his beloved wife, Roseann, also a Marine, and they married in 1947. In 1956, they moved with their children to the Wenatchee, WA, area, where he built the house that he lived in for the rest of his life. Throughout his life, he wore many hats. He worked on a ship in Alaska, as an instructor at a roller rink, a septic tank installer, a carpenter, and as a concrete mason artist extraordinaire. Dad retired from concrete work at the age of 75, having earned the "Golden Trowel" from Wenatchee Sand and Gravel. Throughout his years of concrete work, he helped build the Hawaii Airport, the Wenatchee United States Post Office, the Wenatchee Valley Hospital, Confluence Clinic, Rock Island Dam, many schools, countless homes and sidewalks as well as charitable works such as ramps for those in need. His works stand strong to this day; he always gave his best and it shows. Dad loved his family and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. All were welcome in his home and none left his house hungry; he always had something they just had to try. He loved his children and was easily moved to tears while reminiscing about how he used to tuck them into bed. He was a loving grandfather who loved all of his "piss ants". Dad was a man of many talents and infinite wisdom. There wasn't anything he couldn't grow and no question that he couldn't answer. He was an orchardist and a farmer, growing and sharing everything he grew with his "own two hands" with those he knew. He loved all animals and was a true cowboy. He loved his horses and found great joy in being near them. He was a lover of music and could, if given five minutes to figure it out, play any musical instrument. Dad believed that "right is right" and lived his life that way. He was proud of his family, quick with a joke (often times a nasty one), and loved a good cup of coffee (usually at Jimmy's and preferably served with a little RazMaTaz). He loved and was loved, he was admired and respected, and he will truly be missed. Dad was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; two brothers; his loving wives: Roseann (Ghebelian) to whom he was married for 28 years and Lila Mae (Massey-Baldridge) to whom he was married for 39 years. Dad leaves behind his youngest sister, Gloria; six children: Thomas (Anne) Allen, Rosemary (Tim) Cates, Janice Allen, Bruce Allen, Debbie (Jeff) Trimble, and Andon Allen; four step-children: Bob (Galia) Baldridge, Jeanette (Cal) Peterson, Mary (John) Wood, and Connie Port; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren; Ali Hashemi, Anna Galvan; and the many other children and grandchildren adopted by love. Please join us for A Celebration of Life at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, in East Wenatchee, WA, on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment at Evergreen Memorial Park and Mausoleum. "A special thanks to John Gill and the American Legion Post #10 for their respect and dedication in honoring our father". In lieu of flowers, dad would have wanted donations sent to any children's charity. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
