Victor G. King

Victor Galen King, 86, of Wenatchee, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012. He was born on May 26, 1925 to Bennie E. King and Elsie E. (Ross) King in Augusta, KS, where he was raised in a Christian home. Vic joined the U. S. Navy at the beginning of World War II. During his eight years of service, he served as a corpsman aboard a troop transport ship in the South Pacific and received his high school diploma from Entiat High School. While visiting family, he met Marcelene Huffman and they were married in Wenatchee, WA on August 26, 1950. Upon his discharge from service in Vallejo, CA in 1953, Vic and Marcelene moved to Wenatchee, WA. Vic found employment at Alcoa and later worked for the U. S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1984. He was a life-long member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Vic was known to family and friends as a man of few words who loved his family, family activities and spending time with friends. He left many wonderful memories for his children and many nieces and nephews, for whom he always had time for a game of tag. To his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, he was a big brother who always included them in activities and continued to be someone they could count on through the years. Vic loved to laugh and was known for pulling pranks. He was a music lover, especially big band, country, gospel and western swing. During retirement, Vic enjoyed many hours of working on his stamp and coin collections, traveling with friends and watching his four grandchildren grow into adults. Vic spent the last seven years battling Alzheimer's Disease. While the confusion claimed more and more of his understanding, he never let go of his family. If anything, his love became more evident in his later years. The pain of letting our husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend go is only made easier by knowing that God took him home quickly, painlessly and while he still knew we loved him. Vic was proceeded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and one brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife; Marcelene of Wenatchee, his children and their spouses; Vickie Anderson (Randy) of Leavenworth, WA, Wayne (Jeanie) of Spokane, WA and Brenda Steady (John) of Entiat, WA, his grandchildren; Bethany Dorey of San Jacinto, CA, Benjamin Dorey (Mandy) of Bellevue, WA, Wade Steady of Entiat, WA and Will Steady of Entiat, WA, one brother, four sisters, one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, 711 Grant Road in E. Wenatchee, WA.
